How to use nutritional software to your advantage

If you are reading this, you are likely to have an interest or need to keep track of the nutritional values of foods. Regardless of vitamins, weight loss, healthy living, weight training, etc., this article contains tips that can help you.

Let's look at my example. A few years ago I decided to go to the gym. At that time I was in good physical shape and played hockey two to three times a week in winter. I wanted to get stronger and lose a few pounds that I had gained in the middle. I went to a local gym and asked one of the trainers to design a workout for me. I also realized that if I didn't feed the body properly, I would spend my time asking for nutritional advice. Let's just say that the nutritional advice I received was weak at best. This left me with some questions to answer. How big is a serving? What is the right balance or the right food recommended by the food guide? How Many Calories Should I Eat? I still had a lot of questions.

I started researching the recommended nutritional values. I read books, researched the Internet, spoke to people. I was beginning to learn important and valuable information. I learned that in my situation I needed about 3,000 calories a day. These calories were optimally divided by 60% carbohydrates and 40% protein. When my mouth was dry and I was thirsty, my body was too fluid and muscle performance was reduced. However, the most important thing I learned is that I didn't know what I was eating! Don't get me wrong, I ate healthy, homemade meals that were balanced across all food groups. But when I started analyzing the nutritional values of food, it was a real eye opener. Did you know that most people eat too many carbohydrates? The problem with carbohydrates is that if your body doesn't use them all, the rest will be converted to body fat. So I started to see and regulate the balance between carbohydrates and the proteins I was eating. I was careful with the number of calories I ate every day. And I got good results.

It was too much work! I have spent countless hours researching, monitoring and tracking food values. Remember I said I had good results. A good result wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I wanted great results!

I will give you a secret. I've found a way to get great results. If you haven't heard of it, check the glycemic index for food. This index rates carbohydrate foods on a scale. There are good and bad carbohydrates. Now I'm not talking about a candy bar against an apple. I'm talking about white potatoes versus sweet potatoes. They're both good foods, aren't they? Sweet potatoes have a lower glycemic index. This means that the carbohydrates in sweet potatoes are converted to energy more slowly than white potatoes. This allows your body to burn it instead of converting it to body fat.
